Matt and his father built a log cabin in Maine's wilderness. His father leaves to get the rest of the family so Matt needs to hunt, fish, and gather berries by himself. One day, he sees a bee comb and wants honey. Foolishly he climbs up a tree and gets attacked by the bees and was saved by Indians. One of them is Attean, a boy who becomes Matt's good friend. Attean wants Matt to travel North with the tribe but Matt didn't choose to go. His father comes with the family later. I think 9th graders should read this book.
